Sage Pay Token System Gets Under Way!

Sage Pay Token System Gets Under Way!

SagePay's token system is another string to the e-commerce bow - allowing quicker, easier and safer shopping for online customers!

SagePay ( / protx ) launched their token system recently which is a simple and secure way of keeping card details without actually storing them. You can process transactions as and when required, without compromising on card security or your level of PCI DSS.

Adding the new system to an existing shopping cart takes the form of a few different requests and responses.

My main shock was that the requests take place seperate to an order - which, although it means a bit more work, is very considerate of sagepay to think about those who want to save their card details to their profile - before they are ready to order!

Obviously a simple tickbox at the order stage will tell the system to make a token request either before or after the actual payment is taken.

The token system does exactly what it says on the tin -exchanges a set of card details for a token, which can be sent back to sagepay instead of the actual card details when making an order. We all know its either not advised or complete illegal ( i forget which ) to store customers card details in the database - so this is a nice safe solution. As a reminder to the customer which card is what - you are permitted ( and is usual ) to save the last 4 digits of the card, the expiry date, and I save the card name too. leaving the ccv number and the full card number safely encrypted and stored on sagepay's servers.

lovelly.
